Job Summary
Assistant Operations Manager for BankSouth Mortgage oversees mortgage processing operations across LOA, Processing, and Hybrid teams to ensure loans move smoothly from disclosure to clear-to-close within SLAs. The role partners with VP Operations and cross-functional teams (Production, Disclosure Review, Underwriting, Closing, Post-Closing) to optimize workflow, monitor pipelines, identify bottlenecks, and maintain quality and efficiency. Responsibilities include load balancing across branches, KPI tracking (pull-through, cycle times, SLA adherence), driving process improvements, providing escalation support for complex loans, and traveling to BankSouth Mortgage office locations as needed (hotel and mileage reimbursement provided). The candidate will supervise and coach processors and hybrid team members, support recruiting and onboarding, manage PTO and staffing, assist with performance management, and ensure compliance with fraud prevention, BSA, OFAC, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines. Proficiency in Encompass and mortgage technology platforms, along with strong communication, leadership, and collaborative skills, are essential. Minimum 5+ years mortgage processing experience with strong knowledge of loan products; leadership or supervisory experience preferred; high school diploma required with bachelor’s degree preferred. This role emphasizes driving efficiency, accuracy, and customer service across multiple branches and teams.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of mortgage processing experience
- Strong knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, Jumbo, and specialty loan products
- Leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting, processing, closing, and post-closing functions
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and investor guidelines
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Encompass, Microsoft Office Suite, and mortgage technology platforms
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
