Job Summary
Provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for rural healthcare organizations, including critical access hospitals, FQHCs, tribal entities, and long-term care providers. Partner closely with governing boards, tribal leadership, and community stakeholders to build trust, lead long-term planning, and strengthen access to care across remote regions. Oversee financial performance, budgets, capital planning, and reimbursement challenges while supporting workforce development, quality, safety, and compliance. Navigate operational disruptions such as vacancies, severe weather, or transportation issues. Develop relationships with physicians, public agencies, and regional partners to advocate for the organization at state and federal levels. Ensure the organization remains financially sustainable and responsive to community needs.
Required Qualifications
- Progressive executive leadership experience in healthcare
- Previous experience as a CEO, administrator, COO, CFO, CNO, executive director, or senior healthcare leader
- Strong financial, operational, strategic, and organizational leadership skills
- Experience working with boards, governing bodies, public hospital districts, tribal entities, or public organizations
- Experience leading rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, Rural Health Clinics, tribal healthcare organizations, regional health systems, long-term care organizations, or community healthcare programs
- Knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement, compliance, quality, workforce, and regulatory requirements
- Experience leading through organizational change, financial pressure, workforce shortages, or operational instability
- The ability to build strong relationships across clinical, operational, executive, tribal, and community teams
- Experience supporting services across multiple facilities or large geographic regions
- Experience working in rural, underserved, agricultural, tribal, frontier, or geographically isolated communities
- A leadership style grounded in humility, transparency, accountability, collaboration, and community presence
- Relevant education, certifications, and executive experience based on the specific organization and role
- The ability to relocate, travel regionally, or support multiple locations when required
