Job Summary
Give shift reports to provide accurate patient information, answer unit telephones, and manage visitor inquiries. Pull six-second strips every four hours to capture arrhythmias, ensuring patient safety by verifying names and room numbers on post strips. Monitor central screens continuously, alerting the charge nurse of missing orders or prolonged stable rhythms, and immediately report any equipment malfunctions to Biomedical Engineering. Change monitor batteries and leads as needed, clean telemetry packs upon discharge, and suspend alarms when patients leave the unit. Cooperate with environmental services for cleaning and dead battery receptacles, and assist in orienting new staff members. Requires CPR certification, high school graduation, and one year of monitor technician experience.
Required Qualifications
- CPR certification
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of didactic and clinical base EKG examinations
- Score of 90% or better on rhythm test
