Job Summary
Monitor patients' heart rates and rhythms, communicating ECG changes clearly to the appropriate department. Recognize life-threatening arrhythmias and report them STAT, while maintaining visual checks of monitors and patient logs. Interpret basic ECG strips for rate and rhythm, troubleshoot telemetry equipment, and collaborate with biomed or nurses on GE telemetry problems. Adapt communication styles to specific patient populations and respect privacy throughout the patient care process.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Ability to perform detailed reading of arrhythmias
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Telemetry Monitoring system
- Knowledge of hospital systems, procedures, department locations, treatment areas and patient services
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to recognize life threatening arrhythmias and report to the appropriate department STAT
- Ability to maintain visual check of monitors
- Ability to maintain a log of patients being monitored
- Ability to provide accurate information in an informative manner respecting patient's rights
- Ability to interpret basic ECG strips for rate & rhythm
- Ability to troubleshoot & collaborate with Biomed/nurses for GE telemetry problems
- Ability to recognize artifact & troubleshoot effectively
- Ability to adapt behavior to the specific patient population
- Ability to respect for privacy
- Ability to request permissions and communication style
- Ability to remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements
- Ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
- Ability to immediately report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
- Ability to ensure patient/employee safety
- Ability to ensure patient privacy
- Ability to handle exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
- Ability to handle exposure to all communicable diseases
- Ability to handle exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
Desired Qualifications
- State Certification for ECG
- ECG certificate program or equivalent
