Job Summary
Operate the Domestic Violence Hotline, providing crisis counseling and referrals to callers, while assisting with client supervision and shelter operations. Monitor shelter entrances, screen bags and persons entering, and patrol premises to prevent intrusion and ensure safe operations. Conduct room checks, maintain records of client compliance, and report violations of rules to clinical staff. Transport participants to offsite appointments, assist with meal preparation and class setup, and input data into computer systems. Act as a role model for participants, maintaining professionalism while dealing with potentially aggressive clients. Complete written reports and incident logs detailing daily activities, irregularities, and safety concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients
- Domestic Violence counselling certificate (40 hour class)
- Six months in the security field or six months providing social services as a worker or volunteer, or a combination of both totaling six months experience
- a formal degree or certification in a social service related discipline can substitute for the experience requirement
- Services for this position must be provided on-site
- report to work on-site each day of active employment
- Mandated Reporter: must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- AA or higher degree in related field
- One year of experience working with victims of domestic violence
- Bi-lingual, Spanish and English
- Understanding of harm reduction (non-abstinence) approach with participant substance use
- Willing to work with substance abuse clients, mental health, LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS
