Job Summary
Modeling and Visualization Engineer Co-Op focused on BI reporting within a Databricks/Snowflake environment. Responsibilities include optimizing model performance (DirectQuery vs Import), collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams to build enterprise reporting, exploring external tools to improve throughput, and documenting AI architectures, model schemas, API integrations, and governance standards. Learning opportunities cover Power BI, Databricks, Snowflake, cloud/SaaS platform administration, monitoring platform health, incident resolution, access management, and running operations in a modern cloud analytics stack. The role emphasizes hands-on learning with cloud services (primarily Microsoft Azure) and involvement with BI/AI workloads in production environments. The program offers mentorship from senior data engineers and IT business analysts, hands-on training, and practical exposure to Power BI Service, Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake, within an Agile team setting.
Required Qualifications
- Current graduate student in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or a related field
- Foundational programming skills in writing moderately complex SQL
- Ability to write and understand SQL
- Power BI experience in creating Semantic Models that reference a data warehouse and validating those against the source or spot checking against existing reports
- Willingness to learn in a rapidly evolving field and adapt to new tools quickly
- Analytical mindset with good problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to document learnings clearly
- Self-motivated, curious, and comfortable working in a team-based environment
- Familiarity with cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure) is helpful
- Exposure to analytics or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake) is a plus
- Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) course completion or certification is helpful (not required)
- Strong interest in cloud technologies, SaaS platforms, and system operations
- Power BI experience in creating Semantic Models and validating those models
