Job Summary
Provide low intensity progressive exercise and activity programs to older adult residents and guests as directed by a Physical Therapist and/or Nurse. Intervene to maximize mobility, promote optimal activity, and maintain independence while building trust and genuine connections with residents and colleagues. Monitor resident responses to interventions, adapt strategies to individual needs, and assist with transfers, bed movements, and safe walking. Schedule time to maximize patient participation, record specific activity and treatment times, and convey feedback from residents or families to therapy and nursing personnel. Seek information from nursing staff regarding mobility and self-care performance, assist in training certified nursing assistant staff, and report any suspicious activity related to fraud or operational abuse.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and post-secondary course work in biological sciences, medical terminology, communication and conflict resolution, basic life support, first aid, or similar
- Current CPR certification
- Must be able to work independently, take initiative, and be dependable
- A passion for the value of exercise and activity in improving health, function, and quality of life
- Physical stamina to lift, transfer and assist residents through physical activities
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs. unassisted, including assisting patients when needed
- Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the phone
- Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as a certified nursing assistant, personal trainer, exercise coach, or similar
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, other biological science, or psychology in lieu of other recommended certifications
- 0-2 years related experience with exercise, activity, and/or older adults
