Job Summary
Independent contractor inspectors are hired to perform mobile pre-purchase vehicle inspections in US cities (Contract/1099). Inspectors set their own schedule, negotiate rates, and choose which jobs to accept, visiting customer vehicles and documenting condition details. Tools required include basic automotive instruments (OBD II scanner, tire tread gauge, paint thickness gauge) and a camera or cell phone for photos. Must have at least 3 years of automotive technician experience, reliable transportation, and strong communication skills to service customers during daylight hours. The role is field-based, requiring travel to vehicle locations and independent work on a 1099 contract basis.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years automotive technician/mechanic experience
- Detail-oriented
- Dependable with reliable transportation
- Ability to use a cell-phone and computer
- Provide good customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and have a self-starter attitude
- Walk, bend, stoop, or stand to complete tasks
- Ability to drive to vehicle location using own vehicle
- Be available during business hours
- Ability to complete assignments within a 48-hour window during daylight hours
- Supply own equipment and tools to complete the job
- Valid state driver's license with current vehicle insurance and registration
- Commercial automotive insurance required
- Cell-phone or camera that takes photos
- Magnet or Paint thickness gauge
- Tire tread gauge
