Job Summary
Perform accurate and appropriate testing of specimens across blood bank, coagulation, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis departments according to established laboratory protocols. Document and report test results timely while verifying accuracy before release and investigating unacceptable specimens. Maintain instruments and equipment through daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and calibration as required. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies for quality control, infection control, universal precautions, and public safety. Act as a resource for test-related issues and foster effective working relations within the department and unit teams. Accept assignments readily and minimize costs by following procedures to ensure quality results and efficient turnaround times.
Required Qualifications
- Degree from an accredited college offering a NCCLS approved Medical Laboratory Technician program or completion of a clinical lab training program
- Certification as an MLT by the ASCP, AMT or AAB
- Minimum 2 years related laboratory experience
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology
- Skill in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to multitask, handle stress appropriately, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well with others and consistently display a courteous, professional attitude in all situations
- Ability to lift 10-20 lbs occasionally
- Ability to frequently move objects of less than 10 lbs
- Ability to sit, walk, squat, bend, and reach
- Ability to use a keyboard/computer and perform repetitive motions
