Job Summary
Collect and prepare biological specimens for analyses, ensuring specimen integrity and adherence to established protocols. Perform routine laboratory tests with varying complexity, evaluate results, and report findings to physicians promptly. Assist in department procedures including quality assurance, proficiency testing, calibrations, and supervise new caregivers. Organize department workload for maximum efficiency and ensure smooth shift transitions. Work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Associates degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science
- high school graduate or equivalent
- successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration
- held the military enlisted occupation specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician)
- Medical Lab Technician (MLT) certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technology (AMT), or Military Laboratory Specialist
- 1+ years of Laboratory Experience
- ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department
- ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force frequently
- ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in chemical, physical, or biologic Sciences or Clinical Laboratory Science
- Medical Technologist (MT) certification
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification
- ASCP/AMT or Health and Human Services (HEW) certification
