Job Summary
Mitigation Specialist for Defense-Based Court Advocacy Services. Responsible for psychosocial assessments, intake and service planning with parole-supervised clients, preparing court-oriented reports, advocating at parole hearings, coordinating releases and transportation to programming, and monitoring referrals with treatment providers. Requires NYC Department of Correction clearance, in-person court interactions, and a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, or related field, at least 1 year in criminal justice, experience with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders, and strong written/oral communication and crisis-intervention skills.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, or a similar field
- A minimum of one year of progressively responsible professional experience in a criminal justice environment
- Experience conducting investigations and writing court reports such as Pre-Plea and Pre-Sentence Memoranda
- Experience working with clients with mental illness, intellectual and other developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders
- Experience advocating before a Court or similar entity
- Experience managing a caseload of clients with varying needs and case-related deadlines, ensuring timely action and intervention.
