Job Summary
As a Mission Planning and Optimization Engineer, you'll analyze optimization for time-dependent Traveling Salesman and Facility Location Problems, design spacecraft maneuvers for orbit transfers and reentry events, and support evaluations for contested space mission applications. Strong expertise in trajectory optimization, combinatorial optimization, and orbital mechanics is needed. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to meet complex customer requirements will be key. Candidates must possess a BS in a relevant field, with at least two years of professional experience, and proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Fortran, or MATLAB.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree from an accredited college/university program in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or related field
- Two or more years of relevant professional, technical work experience
- Experience in space mission analysis and design, advanced astrodynamics, algorithm design, software development, mathematical modeling, multi-objective optimization, decision making under uncertainty, trajectory simulation and performance optimization of spacecraft, missiles, and reentry vehicles
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages/tools: C, C++, Python, Fortran, MATLAB
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Willing to travel domestically to customer and contractor facilities (approx. 10%)
Desired Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree from an accredited college/university program in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or related field
- Graduate level course work, research and/or experience in multi-objective optimization, decision making under uncertainty, astrodynamics
- Experience using or building analysis software to combine numerical methods, orbital or flight mechanics, and optimization approaches for launch vehicles, missiles, interceptors, spacecraft, or reentry vehicles (hypersonics)
- Experience with contested space trajectory applications
- Current SSBI with an active TS/SCI clearance
