Job Summary

Repair, recondition, weld, fabricate, service, and prepare Caterpillar and allied machines for delivery. Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in engines, systems, and components, then eliminate or recommend actions to fix metallurgical failures. Plan and control repair jobs by analyzing client requirements, ordering parts, and coordinating helpers to minimize idle time. Operate welding equipment in vertical, flat, and overhead positions while maintaining company equipment and preparing inspection reports. Provide on-the-job training to helpers and communicate equipment conditions, problems, and recommendations to associates, clients, and management. Accept out-of-town assignments requiring extended overnight stays and work in adverse weather conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • At least six months of related experience in a similar role and environment
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English
  • Keep safety as a priority in the work environment
  • Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment (eTRAIN test)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Own and maintain required personal tools
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Current driver's license
  • Minimum of 6 months related experience
  • Completion of TRAIN test evaluation
  • Proof of current valid CDL if required by position
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English
  • Ability to obtain CDL
  • Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance
  • Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation
  • Will be required to wear respirator and be cleared for respirator use by an approved medical provider
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision
  • Will be required to drive
  • May be required to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s)
  • This position is designated as a Safety-Sensitive Position

Desired Qualifications

  • At least five years heavy equipment technician experience, preferably in a dealership environment
  • Caterpillar work experience
  • Proficient rebuilding/repairing machinery including hydraulics, electrical, powertrain, engines Tier IV Emissions systems, failure analysis procedures, and warranty claims procedures
