Job Summary
Ensure student safety by buckling students in seats, securing wheelchairs, and assisting with street crossings and loading/unloading. Handle emergency physical problems during transportation and assist the driver in maintaining discipline while constantly monitoring student welfare. Provide direct aid to students with disabilities and cooperate with administration regarding behavioral management. Maintain confidentiality with student information and adhere to all school, local, state, and federal rules. Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators while attending required staff development and training sessions. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of employment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Good physical and emotional health, including the ability to lift and restrain students of varying age and size
- Physical dexterity, mobility and strength to perform the essential functions of this position
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Knowledge and understanding of the school system's rules and policies, administrative procedures and state and federal rules and regulations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and administrators
- Skilled and effective in oral communication
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in working with handicapped children
