Job Summary
Integrate geologic and blasthole data into grade control ore releases guiding open-pit operations. Perform field mapping of dig faces, highwall exposures, and blast hole patterns while administering sampling protocols and developing QA/QC programs. Generate ore release products accounting for blast movement and material strategies, then work with loading unit operators to guide mining and minimize dilution. Prepare geologic maps, analyze structural features for highwall stability, and consult with metallurgical staff on mineralogical characteristics. Collaborate with senior geologists to refine reserve and resource models based on mapping and sampling data. Maintain accurate records, prepare presentations, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational policies. May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering
- Must have a sound background in sampling theory for assay techniques
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state
- Must be capable of unsupervised light-duty driving in a dynamic open-pit mining environment
- Must have a strong commitment to safe working practices
- Sound working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing word processing and Excel spreadsheet programs
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets
- Punctuality and regular attendance
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies
- Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them
- Work without significant risk of harm to self and others
- Wears Personal Protective Equipment at all times while in the production environment
- Is alert and observes, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions
- Follows operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Two years as a Mine / Production Geologist in open-pit mining
- Exposure to grade control practices for gold mining
- Proficiency with MineSight, Leapfrog, Ore Pro 3D, and/or Vulcan softwares
