Job Summary
Develop and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly mine plans aligned with life-of-mine objectives. Monitor mining activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, safety standards, and operational targets. Prepare short- and medium-term mine designs, production schedules, and excavation sequences while coordinating drill and blast programs. Analyze production data and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost reduction. Conduct field inspections to verify mining progress, identify challenges, and validate designs against actual conditions. Collect and report geotechnical monitoring data to assess risks and recommend corrective actions. Collaborate with operations, geology, survey, and maintenance teams to optimize ore stockpile, waste dump, and haul road designs. Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in open pit mining operations
- Experience with mine planning and design software such as Vulcan, MineSight, or similar 3D CAD platforms
- Experience developing mine plans, production schedules, and drill and blast designs
- Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, mine design principles, and operational best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments
- Ability to perform regular field work in an active mining environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather
- Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information
- Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with geotechnical monitoring, slope management, and mine safety programs is considered an asset
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status is considered an asset
