Job Summary
Loads, unloads, starts, and stops machines while monitoring feeds, speeds, and gauges to ensure workpieces meet quality standards. Adjusts machine feeds, changes cutting tools, and recalibrates controls to detect errors like excessive vibration or dull tools. Sets up fixtures, tools, and programs for first runs and repeat parts, calculating movements per drawing specs. Measures finished dimensions using precision instruments and writes simple programs or probe routines. Troubleshoots machine malfunctions by determining error causes and solutions. Requires 7-10 years of experience, GD&T knowledge, and crane/hoist operator certification.
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 YEARS of experience
- Must have a good understanding and comprehension of GD&T including datum structures
- Fanuc Controllers
- Familiar with machine probing (Renishaw preferred)
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
- Ability to lift pieces with hoists or cranes
- Ability to work standing for periods of time
- Crane/Hoist Operator Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5S and Lean Manufacturing
- Advanced Blueprint Reading
- Documentation and Modern's Production System
- Inspection Techniques for Machinists
- SPC Charts and Tools
- CNC Program Management
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Machine applications, tooling and fixtures
- Adjusting boring heads
- Knowledge of machine tools, including their uses and maintenance
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions
- Ability to control the operations of machining equipment and systems
- Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed to perform a job
- Ability to detect machine errors (i.e. noises, vibrations, etc.)
- Ability to determine causes of operating errors and to find a solution to the problem
- Knowledge of mathematics, particularly Trigonometry
- Understanding of Metallurgy
- Ability to write simple programs
- Basic programming of probes to set work coordinates and dimension verification
Desired Qualifications
- Must have a good understanding and comprehension of GD&T including datum structures
- Familiar with machine probing (Renishaw preferred)
