Job Summary
Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to children and youth of military service members and their families at Fort Drum, NY. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, delivering brief counseling, making referrals and follow-up, offering parent support and training, delivering health and wellness presentations, and consulting with installation command and CDC/youth program staff. Counselors are assigned to child development centers, youth programs, and summer camps, and must maintain confidentiality, enter activity data daily via mobile or web tools, and build relationships with community resources. The role requires collaboration with POC, adherence to DoD protocols, and adaptability to on-base environments, including potential travel and working in various settings on military installations. Supervisory and training activities, participation in quality improvement initiatives, and completion of required documentation are also included. Master’s degree and independent licensure are required, with less than 2 years post-licensure clinical experience, and eligibility for CNACI/IRC background checks; US citizenship and English fluency are required; ability to work in diverse environments and maintain professional relationships with service members, their families, and installation personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a Mental Health related field
- Current unrestricted independent counseling license (LPC/LMHC, LMFT, LCSW or equivalent)
- Less than 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience
- Ability to pass CNACI clearance and FBI background checks
- US citizenship or ability to meet site access requirements
- Fluency in English
- Ability to engage with military members and their families
- Ability to travel within military installations and school settings as needed
- Ability to comply with immunization/vaccination requirements as applicable
