Job Summary
Plan and prepare weekly lessons for Special Education, Math, Physics, Chemistry, or ESL students across all grade levels. Provide individualized instruction that promotes the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students while utilizing appropriate developmental practices. Maintain accurate records including attendance, health files, and report cards, and submit lesson plans on schedule. Manage the classroom environment, enforce discipline, and supply substitutes with adequate materials. Communicate regularly with parents, school personnel, and central office staff to coordinate student progress and report on assignments. Evaluate student performance continuously and participate in faculty meetings and inservice training to support professional growth within Jefferson Parish Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- College Degree
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- Certification in area of assignment
- Must be able to effectively communicate English both orally and in writing
- Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, parents, and school personnel
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students
- Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must keep accurate, up-to-date written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques
- Must be able to work cooperatively with students, parents, and school personnel
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement
- Must be able to physically transfer, restrain or position special education students as required
- Must be able to operate classroom equipment
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds
- Must be able to stand, walk, reach, and bend
- Must be able to conform to Louisiana laws concerning the education, health, safety and welfare of assigned students
