Job Summary
Interact with students according to their Individualized Education Program plans and implement behavior plans as directed. Assist individual students with daily living activities, transfers, mobility, and positioning, while monitoring and guiding them to complete tasks. Provide supervision before and after school, during recess, and lunch, and support students on special education bus routes as necessary. Recognize and respond to critical medical symptoms under the direction of the licensed school nurse and implement approved de-escalation techniques. Document service delivery in written logs and behavior charts to promote a safe learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to attain Highly Qualified Paraprofessional status
- Ability to physically restrain student with help of others if behavior escalates to dangerous level
- Ability to physically move about the building and maintain pace of students
- Ability to interpret information, data, and instructions that are provided in written, oral, or schedule form
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing
- Ability to utilize basic technology
- Ability to complete Personal Care Assistant (PCA) certification
- Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds of materials, or lift students from wheelchairs
- Close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus
