Job Summary
Uncommon Middle School Science teachers work in grade-level teams to prepare all students with the tools and knowledge to critically engage in science. Teach an NGSS-aligned curriculum across topics such as Climate and Earth’s systems, the cosmos, matter and energy transformations, electricity and magnetism, and molecular and ecological systems. Develop students’ practices in questioning, modeling, data analysis, argumentation, and conducting interactive labs. Meet weekly with a principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and differentiate instruction. Build positive relationships with students and families, engage in practice-based professional development, and participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and student achievement. Require a bachelor’s degree; NY certification eligibility required; must pursue NY certification after start. Compensation ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 with comprehensive benefits and generous leave.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements; enrollment in a teacher-preparation program and GPA 2.5+ if not have an education degree
- Certification not required to hire but required to become certified in NY within a reasonable period after employment
- Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
- Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
- Enrolled in teacher-preparation program and maintain GPA 2.5+ if lacking education degree
