Job Summary
Responsible for teaching middle school mathematics utilizing the curriculum set by Newport News Public Schools. Duties include developing lesson plans, adapting curriculum for diverse student needs, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom order, and engaging with parents and staff on student progress. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, be eligible for or possess a teaching license, and successfully complete necessary background checks. Additional physical requirements and a commitment to participate in after-school activities are necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- Must possess or be eligible for a teaching license from the Virginia Board of Education to teach middle school mathematics
- Successful completion of criminal background check
- Successful completion of Central Registry of Child Abuse/Neglect check
- Work schedule Monday-Friday 7am-2:05pm during the school year, with four hours required after school each month
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer
- Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly
- Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public
