Job Summary
Support special education teachers by preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom order, and managing student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and documenting restraints. Assist students with physical disabilities by transferring wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, and providing personal care such as feeding and hygiene. Help maintain equipment inventory, prepare administrative reports, and supervise students throughout the day in classrooms, the lunchroom, and on the bus. Maintain confidentiality and adapt to individual medical, physical, and emotional needs. Requires a valid Texas educational aide certificate, high school diploma, and ability to work with children with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment as well as technology equipment
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
- Regular heavy lifting of students
- Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
- May be required to life and position students with physical disabilities
- Control behavior through physical restraint
- Assist non-ambulatory students
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children preferred
