Job Summary
Facilitate student-led discourse on historical topics through peer-to-peer debate and primary source analysis. Guide learners in understanding authorial claims, argumentation, and historiography while teaching an in-house curriculum emphasizing diverse histories of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, women, and ancient cultures. Build inclusive classroom environments where students express evidence-based opinions and partner with families to support their learning needs. Meet weekly with leadership to analyze student work trends and implement differentiated instruction strategies. Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions while collaborating with grade level teams to develop academic goals.
Required Qualifications
- A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities
- 1-2 years experience preferred
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in a teacher preparation program
- GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if not having a degree in education
- Certification in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
