Job Summary
Facilitate student-led discourse on historical topics where learners grapple with open-ended questions, engage in peer debate, and synthesize arguments using primary and secondary source analysis. Guide students to understand author claims and sourcing while developing argumentation and historiography skills through an in-house curriculum prioritizing diverse histories of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, women, and ancient cultures. Build inclusive classrooms where students express evidence-based opinions and partner with families to support their learning needs. Meet weekly with leadership to analyze student work trends and implement differentiated instruction strategies. Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions while participating in school-wide meetings to model core values. Collaborate with grade level teams to develop academic goals and instructional approaches.
Required Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social emotional and academic development
- An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
- A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
- A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in a teacher preparation program
- Maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if not having a degree in education
Desired Qualifications
- 1-2 years experience in K-12 urban schools and communities
