Job Summary
Identify students with limited English proficiency using assessments, observation, and staff referrals. Develop tailored instructional goals and deliver lessons aligned with state regulations and district standards to promote academic and social growth. Administer standardized tests, monitor student progress, and maintain accurate records while communicating regularly with parents. Adapt instruction for diverse learners, manage classroom discipline, and foster an inclusive environment that supports second language acquisition and cultural understanding. Collaborate with staff on student challenges and participate in school-wide committees and professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency with instructional tools and technology (e.g., Smartboard®, classroom software)
- Strong knowledge of second language acquisition and content-based instruction
- Effective classroom management and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with students, parents, and colleagues
- Experience working with diverse learners in a collaborative, inclusive environment
- Familiarity with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and student data analysis
- Ability to follow and apply educational laws, procedures, and policies
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 20 pounds
- Requires close and distance vision, color perception, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be capable of performing light physical work and extended periods of instruction or supervision
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university
- North Carolina licensure in English as a Second Language (00110) or eligible for licensure (required)
