Job Summary
Middle School ELA Teacher responsible for delivering an inclusive, culturally responsive ELA curriculum; guiding student discourse and writing across genres; analyzing student work with leadership weekly; fostering an inclusive classroom culture and partnering with families to support learning; participates in weekly school-wide meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning with grade-level teams to set academic goals and apply instructional strategies. Emphasis on writing, reading comprehension, and student empowerment aligned with Uncommon Schools’ mission to prepare students for college readiness.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements (enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a 2.5 GPA if not education-degree holder)
- Certification not required to be hired but must become certified in NY within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years experience in urban K-12 education preferred
