Middle School CTE Computer Science Teacher 2026-2027

Job Summary

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in middle school Computer Science and Information Technology courses, implementing the North Carolina CTE curriculum and hands-on learning experiences. Teach computational thinking, algorithms, programming, and digital literacy while differentiating instruction for diverse learners and integrating project-based strategies. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and documentation; monitor progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents. Establish clear expectations, manage classroom behavior, and collaborate with counselors, administrators, and grade-level teams to support student success and promote career readiness. Participate in Professional Learning Communities, parent conferences, and ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of technology trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina Professional Educator License in an appropriate Career and Technical Education – Computer Science and Information Technology Education area or eligibility for appropriate NC CTE licensure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer science, information technology, and technology-related concepts
  • Ability to develop and deliver standards-based instruction
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community partners
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction
  • Ability to move throughout the classroom and school building
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and communicate for extended periods
  • Ability to operate computers, instructional technology, and other classroom equipment
  • Ability to lift and move instructional materials and equipment as needed
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all requirements for employment with Rutherford County Schools and maintaining appropriate North Carolina educator licensure

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience teaching computer science, information technology, or a related CTE program
  • Experience working with middle school students
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Technology Education, or a related field
  • Industry certifications or professional experience in computer science or information technology
  • Experience with programming/coding, cybersecurity, robotics, web development, or other computer science applications
  • Experience with project-based learning and technology integration
  • Knowledge of computer science and information technology concepts
  • Knowledge of current instructional practices and technology trends
  • Ability to teach students with varying levels of technology experience
  • Ability to develop engaging, hands-on learning experiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Ability to use instructional technology and digital learning platforms effectively
