Job Summary

Model NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics behaviors and demonstrate full control over team discipline during practices, contests, and travel. Facilitate athlete supervision across all areas including weight rooms, locker rooms, and buses. Develop effective practice plans, implement game strategies, and manage score reporting and official vouchers. Conduct team evaluations, select rosters, and ensure facility safety while teaching required safety procedures. Coordinate schedules with other coaches under the Athletic Director's direction and foster community partnerships for outreach clinics. Report to the School Principal and Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications

  • experience coaching at the youth and/or middle school or high school level in this sport
  • strong communication skills

  • utilize sound educational principles
  • Model the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics
  • Demonstrates full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline
  • Facilitate supervision of athletes during practice sessions and at all contests, home or away of the sport coached including supervision of the weight room, locker room, shower areas and buses before and after practices and contests
  • Implement WPS athletic department policies and team rules
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Middlesex League bylaws and the McDevitt Student Handbook
  • Attend all Athletic Department and WPS meetings that relate to the sport coached
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport
  • Responsible for team evaluation and selection
  • Develop and organize effective practice plans
  • Provide effective feedback for competitive growth and development
  • Make sure that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas
  • Implement game plans and game management where appropriate including score reporting and return officials vouchers immediately following a contest
  • Foster partnerships with athletic groups in the community to create continuity in programming at various levels
  • Be encouraged to offer clinics and camps
  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of WPS athletes and athletics
  • Develop an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the caregivers of the athletes and invested stakeholders
  • Work with the WPS Athletic staff for distribution and collection of the school's athletic equipment and uniforms before, during and after the coaching season, including safety devices and materials
  • Working collaboratively with all other Waltham Public Schools coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director
  • working to coordinate schedules of games, practices, and events
