Job Summary
Middle School Art Teacher responsible for designing, delivering, and coordinating Art instruction for students in grades K-4/5-8; develop art standards and curricula, supervise students, participate in after-school enrichment, coordinate with outside providers and vendors, maintain records, support in annual school events, and engage families in students’ education. The role requires a bachelor’s degree, NY state certification eligibility (and eventual certification), enrollment in a teacher-preparation program if needed, and a commitment to urban-school impact, collaboration, ongoing professional development, and aligning with the school’s standards and philosophy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification not required to be hired but NY state certification eligibility requirements must be met
- Enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if not educated in state
- Must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements to obtain certification within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years experience in impacting K-12 students in urban schools is preferred
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social emotional and academic development
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
- Ability to align with Uncommon Schools' mission and standards
