Job Summary
Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and guide the learning process toward curriculum goals using appropriate instructional methods. Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and counsel with colleagues, students, and parents. Assist administration in implementing policies, develop classroom behavior rules, and supervise teacher assistants when assigned. Maintain professional competence and attend staff meetings and committees as required. Work within a ten-month year on a contract basis with salary determined by the state scale.
Required Qualifications
- Valid teaching certificate in North Carolina or be able to obtain one
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children
- General knowledge of methods of adapting instruction, equipment and tools for students with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, such as, walk, lift, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch and key requiring repetitive motions
