Job Summary
Plan a program of study meeting individual student needs and create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives and employing appropriate instructional methods. Assess student accomplishments regularly, counsel with colleagues, students, and parents, and assist administration in implementing policies while maintaining classroom order. Supervise teacher assistants when assigned, evaluate their performance, and strive to maintain professional competence. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required. This ten-month contract role involves working within the Carteret County Public School Board system to help students develop as mature, responsible individuals.
Required Qualifications
- Valid teaching certificate in North Carolina or be able to obtain one
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children
- General knowledge of methods of adapting instruction, equipment and tools for students with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, such as, walk, lift, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch and key requiring repetitive motions
