Job Summary
Lead and mentor database administrators while designing, implementing, and managing complex Microsoft SQL OLTP, ODS, and warehouse environments. Perform physical and logical database engineering, including installation, performance tuning, backup, restore, and change management for mission-critical systems. Utilize SQL extensively to develop performance solutions, manage large-scale projects, and lead the acquisition of new database technologies. Collaborate with application developers and systems engineers to support large-scale platforms with minimal supervision, ensuring optimal availability and compliance with SOX and PCI standards. Requires 10+ years of SQL experience, Always-On technology expertise, and ability to provide 7x24 support. Full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
- BS Computer Science or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 10 years of SQL language experience and database administration expertise
- extensive training in implementation, security, administration and tuning of various database management systems
- Direct experience including: Installation and management of Microsoft SQL 2012 or higher cluster with 3 or more physical nodes
- SQL hosted on VMWare
- Database size of 5+ TB
- SQL Always-on technology
- Table partitioning technology
- SQL server upgrade and security patching
- Compliance management: SOX, PCI (access control, encryption, activity monitoring, data loss prevention)
- Strong experience on SQL 2012 or higher database administration
- Experience working in an environment with well-defined Change Management processes
- Strong SQL Tuning, performance analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Process oriented, strong on documentation and standards
- Regular attendance on a full-time schedule of at least 8 hours and 40 hours per week
- Advanced experience with the leading large relational databases such as SQLServer, Oracle or DB2
- Demonstrated follow through, ability to independently and proactively administer databases and collaborate with other IT staff during problem resolution processes
- Thorough understanding of underlying technologies like AD based Security, SAN, Networking and Compute
- Demonstrated knowledge in database backup, replication, cloning using native tools as well as Snap Manager for SQL
- Demonstrated knowledge in performance monitoring using tools like SQLSentry, SCOM etc
- Knowledge of database virtualization products like Delphix and/or RedGate
- Ability to work on demand to provide 7x24 mission critical support
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with an acute ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization and with external partners
- Strong knowledge of database security administration
- Strong ability to mitigate risks to database security and risks arising from loss of data
- Ability to thrive in cross functional matrix environment
- Ability to collaborate with application developers on performance improvement
- Ability to communicate with development team and internal team management in a collaborative environment
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in management of database platforms is a plus
- Installation and management of Microsoft SQL 2019 with high availability cluster
- 2 or more years of experience with Delphix or related data virtualization tool
- Experience leveraging AI tools such as Claude, GitHub CoPilot, or OpenAI
- 1 yr or more experience with automated database deployments using CICD pipelines
