Job Summary
Perform testing in the microbiology laboratory on the night shift at a 522-bed facility, including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and immunology. Interpret plate readings, gram stains, blood cultures, AFB smears, and DNA probe assays using GenProbe Leader 50i while operating Siemens Walkaway 96, BacT Alert 3D, and Microbionetics culture Stat instruments. Process wet preps, stained smears, and modified acid fast smears for intestinal and blood parasites, alongside Syphilus serology and other latex tests. Manage a monthly volume of 5,000 to 6,000 tests using the Sunquest LIS system. Requires a Bachelor's degree with ASCP certification and at least two years of relevant experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with ASCP certification
- At least 2 years experience performing: Bacteriology including plate reading, gram stain interpretation, blood cultures and specimen setup
- At least 2 years experience performing: Mycobacteriology - including AFB smear interpretation, identification and DNA probe assay using GenProbe Leader 50i
- At least 2 years experience performing: Mycology – including yeast and mold identification
- At least 2 years experience performing: Parasitology – including parasite ID wet prep and stained smear, modified acid fast smear for intestinal parasites and blood parasite identification
- At least 2 years experience performing: Immunology – Syphilus serology and other latex serology testing
- At least 2 years experience performing: Instrumentation includes Siemens Walkaway 96 (Microscan), BacT Alert 3D and Microbionetics culture Stat
- At least 2 years experience performing: LIS system: Sunquest
- At least 2 years experience performing: Monthly volume: 5000 – 6000 tests
