Job Summary
Microbiology Lab Technician responsible for executing daily lab operations in a facility following ISO 17025 QA standards. Performs media and agar plate prep, pour and petrifilm plating, records results, reports out-of-spec conditions, and conducts sample testing of raw materials and finished products. Maintains data records, prepares test reports, runs membrane filtration and PCR methods, and ensures laboratory safety and cleanliness. Requires ability to operate microbiology instruments, conduct proficiency testing, and work both independently and as part of a team toward accurate, timely quality testing. Associates (or higher) in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related fields (equivalent experience acceptable) and strong math, communication, and computer skills are needed; valid driver’s license is required. 2nd shift Friday-Tuesday with overtime as needed; benefits include medical/dental/vision, 401(k), PTO, and other perks.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree is required or bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related areas (equivalent experience allowed)
- Math skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Word
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow Good Laboratory Practices
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to operate microbiology instruments and equipment including preventive maintenance, calibration, checks and verification
- Ability to perform microbiological swabbing and air monitoring (environment program)
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Successful completion of proficiency testing
