Job Summary

Microbiologist II – Non-Sterile role performing routine microbiological testing to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include quality control and quality assurance of materials and products, interpreting test results, maintaining GMP/GDP-compliant documentation, handling BSL-1 and BSL-2 organisms, assisting in audits, and supporting method development/validation with supervision as needed. Requires a Bachelor’s in microbiology (or related science) with hands-on microbiology coursework and 3-5 years of pharma/biotech QC lab experience (or Master’s with 2-3 years); strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills; familiarity with ISO 17025, cGMPs, SOPs, and regulatory standards; proficiency in environmental monitoring, microbial testing techniques, and QA/QC documentation; ability to work OT/weekends as needed; located in Tampa, FL with on-site work expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related science field, including at least 12 semester hours of hands-on laboratory courses in microbiology and/or chemistry
  • 3-5 years of pharmaceutical/biochemical QC laboratory experience in microbiology or master’s degree with 2-3 years relevant microbiology lab experience
  • Demonstrated experience in microbial enumeration testing, growth promotion testing, streak for isolation, testing with microorganisms, environmental monitoring, method suitability, microbial identification, gram staining, pipetting small volumes, SOP/documentation revisions, and other applicable testing/skills
  • Excellent analytical, decision making and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of microbiology principles and methods and ability to communicate this information to others
  • Ability to read, understand and comply with Company policies and SOPs, including safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to adapt, learn, and teach new skills
  • Team collaboration and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to solve routine and non-routine laboratory issues/problems
