Job Summary
Support youth participation in AFSC programming by developing anti-militaristic curriculum for high school students and creating political education materials on defunding policing. Attend weekly coalition meetings as timekeeper and notetaker, while collaborating with other AFSC programs at bi-weekly meetings. Develop and publish the Chicago Peacebuilding Newsletter, assist with monthly fundraising t-shirt sales and shipments, and execute social media strategy. Provide administrative support for local and national projects, including research and communications tasks as needed. This entry-level fellowship includes training and works within the Chicago Peacebuilding Program, focusing on abolitionist campaigns and community-based resources.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum one year of experience in community organizing, social justice campaigns, or youth leadership programs
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
- Ability to travel
- Respect for Quaker values and testimonies
- Knowledgeable and supportive of the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including non-violence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual
- Respect for and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, gender and religious diversity
- Familiarity with non-violent approaches to problem solving
- Ability to organize, plan ahead and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated dedication to the principles of fairness, equity and inclusion in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities
- Regular attendance and punctuality
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's in related field
- Additional experience in strategizing for abolitionist campaigns
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff
