Job Summary
Assess and manage neuro-oncology patients with primary brain tumors and metastases, performing comprehensive histories, physicals, and diagnostic test interpretation. Order and write prescriptions for antineoplastics and investigational drugs, oversee specialized procedures like lumbar punctures and Ommaya reservoir access, and develop continuous care plans across the illness trajectory. Coordinate urgent care evaluations and facilitate patient movement through interdepartmental collaboration with radiology and other services. Participate in research, quality improvement, and committee work while mentoring staff and maintaining current clinical knowledge.
Required Qualifications
- Master's in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD Degree in Nursing
- Completion of a Master's or post Masters' degree in Adult program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
- Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program which has as its objective the preparation of professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioner
- ANA or other appropriate nursing certification in the area of practice
- Authorization by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing to practice in the expanded role
- DEA for prescription writing
- APRN national certification
- Current Adult/Gerontology (AGNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body
- Current APRN License to practice in Massachusetts
- Minimum 5 years' current nurse practitioner experience caring for an Oncology focused patient population
- Clinical nurse practitioner experience in an ambulatory practice managing a solid tumor or CNS oncology focused patient population
- Proficiency with Epic EMR
- Telemedicine experience
- Expert clinical judgment skills to function in the independent role
Desired Qualifications
- Oncology Nursing Board Certification
- Clinical experience ordering and/or administering antineoplastics
