Job Summary
Install, remove, replace, inspect, test, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic meters and related equipment. Troubleshoot failures on single-phase and smart meters, investigate tampering and sensor errors, and adjust internal clocks. Document adverse safety conditions, operate company vehicles, and maintain test instruments and tools. Assist higher-rated employees and instruct other staff on duties. Capture smart meter readings, create data files, and reprogram meters for bi-directional capabilities. Perform Hazard Responder and storm repair duties as necessary. Complete work for special projects and surveys. Maintain proper inventory levels and distribution of metering materials. Use field computers and software to accurately complete work types and create work orders. Adhere to safety rules, promote safety philosophy, and work cooperatively with customers and team members.
Required Qualifications
- Must have knowledge of electricity and electronics normally acquired by taking a two-year course at an acceptable technical school, and/or related work experience
- Must be able to safely and satisfactorily perform work assignments of lower classifications
- Must pass an oral and written examination to demonstrate proficiency
- Must be able to work safely, follow safety rules and regulations, and meet first-aid requirement
- Must possess ability to climb and work off ladders in close quarters
- Must have vision corrected to 20-30 and pass color vision test
- Must possess ability to lift and carry more than 25 pounds
- Must have range of motion commensurate with installation and/or removal of meters and metering equipment
- Must possess a Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license and be able to safely operate motor vehicles
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Must be able to operate two-way radios, telephones, cellular phones and other communication devices
- Must be able to operate computers, tablets and associated software
- Must be able to write legibly to prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and job briefings
- Must demonstrate individual initiative, ingenuity, and judgment in carrying out work assignments
- Must be able to appropriately deal with potentially dangerous animals
- Must meet company standards in regard to physical fitness, personal conduct and appearance, attendance, work performance, safety practices, and supervision required
- Must be able to deal with customers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner
- Must be able to read data accurately
- Must be able to report meter conditions
- Must be able to take appropriate action based upon reports and work orders
- Must be able to adjust and calibrate meters and instruments
- Must be able to accurately input information
- Must be able to ascend and descend steps
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions
- Must be able to navigate across rough terrain
- Must be able to do considerable walking or driving
- Must have manual dexterity to operate handheld devices
- Must be able to perform the proper 'Socket Safety Check' procedures for each meter form type
- Must be able to troubleshoot failures
- Must be able to document and inform supervision of adverse safety conditions regarding meters, meter sockets, electric services and lines
- Must be able to use field computer and associated software to accurately complete all Meter Services work types
- Must be able to field create work orders when necessary
- Must demonstrate effective knowledge of all applicable manuals, and manufacturers' parts lists
- Must be able to instruct and/or train other employee in the performance of any duties which you're qualified
- Must be able to investigate diversion, tampering, mixed meters, and other service/meter irregularities
- Must be able to take necessary action to complete the work order and/or forms
- Must be able to perform Hazard Responder and other storm repair duties as necessary
- Must be able to pass the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) test
