Job Summary
Install and maintain all types of electric meters energized at any voltage in the shop, stations, switchyards, generating plants, and on customer premises. Install and maintain distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure. Read meters for field orders and cycle billing, test single, network, and polyphase meters for accuracy, and program meters. Perform credit and collections orders including disconnects and reconnects for non-payment, investigate irregular usage and energy diversion, and repair meters, sockets, and enclosures. Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter equipment. Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders and neutral testers, and produce reports. Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms. Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years
- State Driver License
- Medical certification card
- Ability to walk long distances as determined by the Company
- Ability to lift a 50-pound weight from the floor to a workbench
- Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends
- Work late shifts as needed
- Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner
- Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position
- Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner
- Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct
- Report hazards and abnormal conditions
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees
- Successful completion of the Company's training and qualification program for this position including classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations
- Backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment
- Roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel
- Comparable military or industrial technical training
- 24 months as a Meter Electrician C
- 24 months as a Meter Electrician B
- Successful completion of the Company training and qualification program for this classification including classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations
- Successful completion of the Company training and qualification program for this classification including classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations
- Minimum 24-month period that an employee will spend in the Meter Electrician B classification
- Live or be willing to relocate within 30 miles of the Zanesville Service Center (1900 Licking Road Zanesville, Ohio 43701)
