Job Summary

Deliver accurate, compelling weather forecasts across TV, radio, and digital platforms while interpreting radar data and analyzing severe weather events. Provide urgent updates before and during storms, ad lib content during breaking news, and simultaneously produce graphics for broadcast partners. Gather facts for editorial meetings, keep news personnel updated on conditions, and conduct live field reporting during weather events. Maintain a calm, conversational on-air presence to summarize complex information for viewers and employees. Work all shifts including holidays and weekends. Report to the News Director at NBC5, Hearst's Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY affiliate.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional on-air or in-school experience handling breaking news and severe weather coverage
  • In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
  • Dynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentation
  • Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high-powered radar data
  • Experience with common television weather systems
  • Experience with live field reporting on weather and other topics
  • Must be able to work all shifts (Holidays and weekends included)

Desired Qualifications

  • NWA and CBM seals are a plus
  • Related military experience will be considered
