Metallurgy Materials Specialist

Job Summary
Develop solutions to issues related to bearing, steering and driveline material properties, steel cleanliness, or heat treatment; apply advanced material science to improve bearing/steering/driveline products and processes, and collaborate with internal plants, customers, and suppliers. Coordinate projects, analyze data, recommend test programs and actions, prepare technical reports, and mentor less experienced engineers. Strong emphasis on technical writing, problem solving, data analysis, and adherence to automotive quality systems (e.g., IATF 16949, CQI-9). Travel about 10-20% and work primarily in a normal office setting with potential exposure to manufacturing areas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy
- MS Degree (preferred) in Materials Science or Metallurgy
- 10+ years’ experience in industrial production areas and/or laboratory evaluation of material properties with an emphasis of steel
- Knowledge of heat treatment, steel production, and metal forming processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Project management for large multi-discipline projects is necessary
