Metallurgist - Environmental Laboratory Testing - Minerals

Job Summary

Conduct physical and chemical metallurgical separations testing and design moderate environmental test programs based on client objectives. Manage small to medium-sized projects by establishing scheduling workflows, controlling budgets, and issuing monthly project invoices. Compile and analyze metallurgical data to prepare comprehensive interpretive reports, including summaries of test methods, Chain of Custody documentation, and Certificates of Analysis. Provide guidance to clients on test program design and result interpretation while supervising Technicians, Technologists, and Junior Metallurgists. Conduct applied research and experimental testing to support flowsheet development and pilot plant programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences or in a related science discipline or equivalent related work experience combined with a three-year college diploma in a Science related program (Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, etc.)
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a minerals testing laboratory setting
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment
  • Previous experience in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy or gold metallurgy, including flowsheet development, bench scale test work and pilot plant programs
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory
  • Demonstrates above average verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition
  • Ability to compose clear and concise technical reports
  • Familiar with key unit operations and equipment
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
