Job Summary
Supervise daily fabrication, welding, fitting, grinding, and painting operations while coordinating manpower, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules. Manage production flow to optimize efficiency, ensure compliance with engineering drawings and CWB requirements, and maintain accurate documentation of welding activities. Lead and coach Metal/Weld Shop employees, conduct performance reviews, establish a certified welding skills matrix, and train staff on proper techniques and equipment. Act as the primary liaison between the shop, engineering, and quality departments to drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S initiatives, and continuous improvement in productivity and workflow. Ensure strict adherence to health and safety policies, promote a positive safety culture, and address hazards promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in Manufacturing, Welding, or a related field preferred
- 7–10 years of fabrication and welding experience
- 5–7 years of supervisory or leadership experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of MIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications
- Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities
- Excellent organizational and production planning skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Regular exposure to welding, grinding, fabrication equipment, noise, and industrial operations
- Frequent walking and supervision throughout production areas
- Required PPE must be worn in accordance with company safety requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of CWB standards and certification requirements considered a strong asset
- Relevant CWB certifications considered an asset
