Job Summary
Schedule inbound and outbound shipments of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, coordinating truck, rail, container, and intermodal activity to ensure safe, cost-effective movement. Secure freight rates from carriers and brokers, optimize routing, and track shipments to resolve delays or scheduling conflicts. Issue shipping instructions, communicate daily schedules to operations and customers, and verify documentation including bills of lading and scale tickets. Maintain accurate records in CROW/RIMAS, reconcile invoices, and prepare weekly logistics reports. Develop relationships with transportation providers, negotiate rates, and create contingency plans for market disruptions. Work closely with traders, yard managers, and commercial teams to align freight economics with trading margins.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Transportation, or related field
- Prior experience in logistics, traffic, transportation, or supply chain coordination
- 2yrs plus experience
- Experience in metals recycling, scrap, steel, manufacturing, commodities, or bulk materials
- Experience coordinating truck and rail shipments
- Familiarity with export logistics and container shipping
- Strong understanding of Truckload and LTL freight
- Strong understanding of Rail logistics
- Strong understanding of Freight brokerage and carrier management
- Strong understanding of Bills of lading and shipping documentation
- Strong understanding of DOT transportation regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
- Proficiency with Inventory and shipment tracking software
- Organizational skills
- Negotiation skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Multi-tasking capability in fast-paced environments
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pass all required employment screenings which consist of (Multiple interviews, Background Checks, Drug Screens and Employment Documentations and Verifications)
Desired Qualifications
- Equivalent industry experience may be substituted for formal education
- Experience in metals recycling, scrap, steel, manufacturing, commodities, or bulk materials preferred
- Experience coordinating truck and rail shipments is highly desirable
- Familiarity with export logistics and container shipping is a plus
