Job Summary
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide crisis and/or de-escalation interventions, therapeutic observations, group sessions, patient supervision, and other behavioral health-related duties within the NYC jail system. Orient patients to unit policies and routines; use crisis/de-escalation techniques when necessary; identify triggers and communicate with the treatment team; perform patient checks/rounds; communicate clinical matters to mental health/DOC staff; escort patients to groups; conduct 1:1 monitoring for behavioral management; participate in departmental clinical training; may lead or co-lead groups (e.g., anger management) and document activities; respond to emergencies and coordinate with DOC staff for unit safety; engage in regular 1:1 supervision with supervisors; maintain professional appearance and demeanor; perform other appropriate mental health duties as directed. Work locations include CHS facilities in Astoria, NY and various locations on Rikers Island; environment aligns with correctional health settings and on-site duties.
Required Qualifications
- An associate's degree in criminal justice, Social Services or health related area
- A High School diploma or a GED and two years of full-time experience in Nursing Behavioral Health or another related field.
- Or any combination of 1 and 2 above
- Ability to carry out written and oral instructions
- Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with patients and co-workers
