Mental Health Support Worker

Job Summary
The Mental Health Support Worker provides person-centered, recovery-oriented support to university students with complex mental health needs to help them set and progress toward goals for day-to-day functioning and academic success. They work within an interdisciplinary care team, may meet with students more frequently to build and practice goal-oriented skills across areas such as academics, mental health, executive functioning, housing stability, and community connectedness, and assist students to access and connect to formal and informal supports. Responsibilities include monitoring mental health symptoms, developing crisis plans, advocating with community partners and university staff, delivering training/workshops or facilitating skill-based groups, and ensuring alignment with the overall care plan. The role requires a University Degree in social work, psychology, or related field and at least three years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, experience with anti-oppressive practice, and flexibility to work evenings on campus with occasional off-campus support.
Required Qualifications
- University Degree in social work, psychology, or other health-related discipline
- minimum of three (3) years related experience working with people with complex mental health/addiction issues
- demonstrated mental health case management experience including crisis intervention/risk assessment, emotional regulation, harm reduction, and goal-focused support
- experience working with students with diverse identities and demonstrated understanding, training, and experience with anti-oppressive practice
- experience with privacy legislation as it relates to work with students and support teams with diverse membership
