Job Summary
Deliver support services and act as a consumer advocate for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in an outpatient setting. Provide recovery and wellness support, mentoring, and advocacy through individual and group sessions while modeling personal responsibility and self-advocacy. Share your recovery story to help clients identify and experience recovery, offering hope, encouragement, and connection to the community. Document and monitor interactions using SmartCare and other database software, writing progress notes that adhere to standard spelling and grammar. Maintain a trauma-informed care approach with cultural sensitivity, working within a team to assist clients in regaining control over their lives and recovery processes.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or GED
- Eligible for certification as a Mental Health Peer Specialist according to the State Authority's guidelines and ViaHope policies and procedures
- One year of successful treatment for a mental health issue
- Willingness to disclose their lived experience and work toward recovery
- Valid driver's license
- Insurable to drive Center vehicles
- Ability to pass a background check
- Must obtain certification as a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) within the eighteen months of employment
- Knowledge of programs for persons with behavioral and intellectual challenges
- Knowledge of peer philosophy and role
- Knowledge of recovery models
- Knowledge of trauma informed care
- Skill in sharing personal challenges
- Skill in listening
- Skill in documenting and monitoring interactions with persons served
- Ability to write progress notes according to standard with acceptable spelling and grammar
- Customer service orientation
