Job Summary
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides medical services to inmates, coordinating with physicians and ensuring adherence to community standards and correctional healthcare regulations. Key responsibilities include performing patient evaluations, prescribing medications, managing psychopharmacological care, and educating patients on their treatment plans. Required skills encompass advanced clinical assessment, effective communication, and strong documentation accuracy. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in nursing with psychiatric focus, possess relevant licensure, and have national certification as a PMHNP.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a psychiatric/mental health focus
- Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse license in the applicable state
- National certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
- Experience providing direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner
- Current prescriptive authority, including DEA registration as required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in correctional healthcare, behavioral health, or a comparable clinical setting preferred
- ACLS preferred if required by facility
Additional Requirements
- Ability to meet all credentialing, background, and security clearance requirements for a correctional facility.
- May be required to work nights, weekend, and holidays.
- On-call duty may be required (available to work on short notice).
