Job Summary
Conduct nursing assessments, including physical, psychosocial, and mental status evaluations, to identify mental health concerns and risks. Administer medications, reconcile prescriptions, monitor physiological parameters, and manage side effects. Integrate data to establish care goals, provide nursing interventions, and modify care plans based on patient condition. Deliver medication teaching, assist with individual or group therapy, and provide clinical instructions to patients and families. Accurately document all findings in health records while maintaining confidentiality. Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to promote, maintain, and restore health for children and youth in school-based settings.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of three to five years recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting which has included the care and management of children with mental health problems
- Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of family therapy and group therapy
- Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization's ethics and standards of practice
- Knowledge of community resources and organizations related to children's mental health and psychiatry
- Respect and understanding of confidentiality and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information
- Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems
- Apply theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting
- Utilize relevant research findings in daily nursing practice
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree is preferred
- Acute care experience in children's mental health would be an asset
